Please mark your calendars for our next PTSA meeting scheduled for the Thursday after Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 29th.   During this meeting we plan to hold a vote on whether or not to dissolve the PTA Council.

At our last meeting in October, we held discussions on the following:

*What is the purpose and function of a Council PTA?

*Why should SO have a Council PTA?

*Who might commit to serving as Council PTA Officers or delegates? Do we have enough volunteers over several years?

*What happens if Council dissolves?

*What happens to the funds currently in Council’s bank account?

*What happens if we do nothing?

I encourage you to learn more as TZHS PTSA will possibly be voting on the future of Council at our next meeting on Thursday, Nov. 29th, at the TZHS Library.

Project Graduation

We are holding a Intuitive Medium Gallery reading with Deborah on Tuesday January 12th, 2016 from 7-9pm at Tappan Zee High School as a fundraiser for Project Graduation. Please see the attached flyer.

TZHS Project Graduation ‘16 marks the 25th anniversary of our annual supervised, substance free, all-night party for the graduating Tappan Zee High School Seniors.  This project involves community–wide support and financial assistance to reach a common goal: Providing a substance-free and safe environment to celebrate graduation.

Many other communities across the United States have hosted Project Graduation’s and in doing so, have reduced the chances of students being injured in alcohol or drug-related auto accidents.

We are so excited to be holding this fundraiser for the first time this year and we hope you can join us.

Please mail your forms in early if you are interested since space will be limited. Also, please pass this form along to anyone you think may be interested. This event is open to the public.

Hope to see you there.

2014 TZHS PTSA Scholarship Awards Recipients

PSTA Scholarship Awards

The Tappan Zee High School Parent Teacher Student Association scholarships are awarded to seniors based on an essay written by the student, as well as their school and community involvement.

This year’s essay question was: There is a famous quote attributed to Gandhi: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”  If you could change something about the world we live in, what would it be and why?

The winning scholarship essays were creative, insightful, and well-written. The students demonstrated in their essays a keen sense of shared visions and experiences on topics that are relevant for today’s students.

Congratulations to the 2014 TZHS PTSA Scholarship Awards recipients: Mikayla Amaral, Michael Arietta, Victor Armaniaco, Nicholas Carbonetto, Leda Ferranti, Rouhin Ghosh, Luke Grennan, Danielle McIntee, Brianna Yee and Zhaoyi Zhang.

TZHS PTSA Project Graduation

Project Graduation is a supervised, substance-free, all night party given to the graduating students of Tappan Zee High School as an alternative to the predictable graduation night drinking and driving temptations, and, as a commitment to keeping TZHS graduates safe following the graduation ceremonies.

Many other communities across the United States have hosted Project Graduation’s and in doing so, have reduced the chances of students being injured in alcohol or drug-related auto accidents.

Project Graduation, is made possible each year through donations and the financial support of the South Orangetown business community, South Orangetown Central School District, parents, teachers, administrators, community residents, the Town of Orangetown and the South Orangetown Education Foundation.

The evening’s festivities are in the initial stages of planning and will include lots of music, great food, and a variety of activities such as volleyball, basketball, a video game area, ping pong and table games. Also, each year we contract with an entertainment company for additional entertainment such as a DJ/karaoke, a jousting ring, an obstacle course, a comedian, airbrush tattoos and an old fashioned photo booth.

This celebration is organized by the PTSA with help from the Senior Class, School Administrators, Parents and Local Businesses and Organizations.  To make this celebration a most memorable occasion we need to ask you for your support and financial backing.  We are asking you to consider a donation of money, prizes or gift certificates.  Your donation is tax deductible.

Please click “Donate Now” to make a monetary donation or contact for more information on other types of donations.
